Rochester, NY— An eye-opening and educational exhibition comprised of actual human bodies and organs will make its only scheduled Upstate New York debut at the Rochester Museum & Science Center on Saturday, September 1. Our Body: The Universe Within will include 12 actual human specimens and 75 additional anatomical displays. Tickets go on sale opening day, September 1 at the door, on-line at http://www.rmsc.org/ or by calling 697-1942. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors may add the giant-screen film “The Human Body” (also opening September 1) to their visit with a combo ticket.

Our Body: The Universe Within will expose the inner workings of human anatomy by presenting actual human specimens, anatomical displays, reproductions of historic anatomical artwork and much more. By presenting an artful, compelling and dignified environment, guests will connect with the human artifacts on a personal level that will help them to better understand their own bodies.

The exhibit literally, as well as figuratively, goes “under the skin,” exposing the intricacy of the human body and allowing the general public a look at what only doctors and scientists normally are allowed to see first hand. The exhibit will showcase specimens preserved through a polymer impregnation process that replaces fluids with polymers that prevent decay and decomposition.

The exhibit shines a light on the alluring mystery of the human body through the presentation of these fascinating specimens combined with an inspirational and educational message. By highlighting anatomy studies over the past 1,000 years, guests will see how the body’s beautiful complexity has influenced generations of artists and scientists.

“The opportunity to host Our Body: The Universe Within came up quickly,” states Kate Bennett, RMSC President. “In making the decision to bring this exhibition to Rochester, the Rochester Museum & Science Center took a thoughtful approach involving a thorough process. Medical experts and scholars were consulted, and highly endorsed bringing the exhibit to this region. No other city the size of Rochester has had the opportunity to host this awe-inspiring blockbuster.” Bennett goes on to say “The Rochester Museum & Science Center is confident that the exhibition has significant educational value and will have a positive impact on this region.”

Our Body: The Universe Within is produced by The Universe Within Touring Company, LLC in association with American Exhibitions, Inc.

This rare opportunity is made possible by partnering area community corporations; Presenting Sponsor ESL Federal Credit Union, major support from Preferred Care, and additional support from Monroe County and City of Rochester.
